Hediard Since 1854 & the Origins of Gifts Hampers (1935):
Founded 160 years ago, Hediard has been specializing in the art of surprising all gift recipients since and assisting thoughtful givers. Germaine Kusel, niece of Ferdinand Hediard, who spared no effort using her creativeness and vivid imagination to breathe new life into the firms products challenged the status quo, finding new sources of inspiration for new presentations, each more original and refined than the last, and redesigning the layout and decoration of the boutique.

It was she who dreamt up the idea of the "HEDIARD hampers". A basket lined with hazelnut leaves presented apples, pineapples, lychees, dates, Chinese lanterns or mangosteens, alongside bottles of Creole punch or old port, marrons glacés or marzipan cakes. The hampers, wrapped in transparent paper held with a ribbon, very soon became the gift par excellence to send to the lady of the house when invited for dinner.
